Happy Monday! I can’t believe it is already July. This summer is really flying by. I’m kind of okay with this, because I’m really excited to start optometry school here in a little over a month. Also, I’m running my first half marathon (as you know) the first weekend in October, so I’m really looking forward to that as well.
It is also a little nerve-racking with how fast this is all coming up. I know I’ve only been officially working on my half marathon training for two weeks now, but I am still nowhere near ready to run 13.1 miles. To be honest, I didn’t even complete my long run for this past week.
I know. That sounds pretty bad. I was disappointed that I didn’t make that run a priority this week, but I am technically doing the same workouts this week that I did last week, so I’ll still get that run in.
You see, I originally found a 14-week training plan that I really liked, and then I found a 16-week plan that I thought might be better. However, that plan didn’t incorporate as much strength training as the 14-week plan, but I still wanted to do a 16-week plan. So, I decided to modify the 14-week plan and turn it into a 16-week plan, which really just involved me repeating some of the weeks.
This week would’ve been a repeat week, so I’ll just stick to my training schedule more closely this week.
I don’t really know what happened in this past week to help excuse my missing of long run day. I’m looking forward to doing it this week, though. The weather should be just a tad bit cooler this weekend too, which will be a tremendous help. This past weekend the highs were in the mid-90s with heat indexes in the 100s, which aren’t great running conditions.
Another one of my goals for this week is to start waking up a little bit earlier. I think this will be difficult in the first half of the week because I’m working mostly in the evening, and getting up earlier after getting to bed later than usual is always a struggle.
Next week, I’m on vacation, so TBD if there will be a post for next week. If there is, it will probably just be short one like today’s post.
Well, that’s all I really have for this week. I’ll be back in a week or two to tell you all about my running adventures – and about my long run(s)! Have a great week!

This week’s quote comes from Episode 129 of the Ali on the Run Show. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this podcast in the past, but it is one of my favorite shows to listen to while running – or even driving for that matter. You should definitely check it out if you’ve been looking for something new to listen to. The conversations she has with fellow runners are amazing, and you’ll probably enjoy it even if you think you aren’t interested in running.
